About us

Hi, we’re Phil & Sandy Parker.

With our two Romanian rescue dogs, Anna and Elsa, we’re getting ready to spend 2022 on an epic adventure travelling our two countries on either side of “the pond” having left the corporate 9 to 5 world for a break to, “live deliberately… and suck out all the marrow of life.” (Henry David Thoreau)

We’ve been married for over 20 years — Sandy, from Chicago, USA and Phil from London, UK. We met in April 1999 in a little tourist town outside of Budapest, Hungary. Phil was on holiday visiting a pen pal and Sandy was touring for a week on a break from her volunteer work at the Lutheran Church in Bulgaria based in Sofia. It was a two-hour meeting in a little cafe that had Sandy saying after, “He sure was a nice guy.” Little did she know at the time that she’d be married 18 months later and living in London.

Fast forward about 20 years and Sandy and Phil are a childless, debt-free couple, merrily working in good, stable jobs when all of a sudden, paid redundancy packages happen to become available for both of them. Score! It’s the opportunity they’ve been praying about; the chance to take a break from “work” and just do something different for awhile.

parkerlings.com is the first phase of that adventure. A chance for Phil and Sandy, and their extended family and friends to share their life and learning with the world.
